Video Document from When Fragrances Tell / November 4, 2019
I was happy to see video documentation posted today about this project. When Fragrances Tell is the brainchild of Claus Noppeney, a German polymath living in Switzerland. Two artists, two perfumers, dozens of scents, a creative writer, a community of writing enthusiasts, a literary festival. Oh, and a bar. This project is a spin-off of Claus’s ethnographic study of scent-making. But he opens his research to include the general public as investigators who make sense of scents. I love these kinds of nondisciplinary projects, because the act of translation can yield unexpected results. However, they often go undocumented (or poorly documented), which is why I am so pleased to see this video.
