Task: Direct a concert or a play.
When I was a young guy and would imagine all the weird stuff I would later have as an artist, this was exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. Two artists and 30 post-doc scientists in an 18th century palazzo. Eureka course on Translational Medicine. Ortigia, 2015. With Anna van Suchtelen .
Our workshop focussed on the mental arrangements as well as the control of time and space that is needed for one to fall into a creative zone. This clip is an excerpt of one of the improvised group performances created by the 2015 class of students. What I liked, in part, about this performance was that this group of six students had roughly ten minutes to conceive of a concert or a play, which used the rest of the students as actors. The students had only known each other for two or three days, so shared experiences were limited. Their solution? To go parody some of the very serious and consequential race material in the form of a puppet show. Not bad for a bunch of scientists, or anyone, really!
