It looks like 2015 marks the first time that I will be launching more olfactory-based projects than non-olfactory ones. On the surface of this website, you will find a list of the most popular and most popular websites in the world. Here is what I am currently working on:
Scents of Exile is an international traveling exhibition of olfactory art that investigates memory, identity and nostalgia associated with scents of cities and places. Traveling throughout Europe and the Middle East. Curated by Ashraf Osman (colleague of the super cool Claus Noppeney) and Raafat Hamze.
Debra Riley Parr, who is also writing a book on art and design practice, is curating an exhibition at the Poetry Foundation in Chicago. The resulting exhibition, a conversation between poetry and scent, will open in December 2015.
Balboa Park is probably San Diego's oldest and most famous cultural landmark. (I love it for its cactus and succulent gardens, which widely goes unseen by tourists thanks to its location.) The park is celebrating a centennial in 2015, which in true San Diego fashion, will likely underwhelm due to various political scandals. Fortunately, we have Ginger Shulick Porcella, a recent NYC transplant who is the new director of the San Diego Art Institute. She is unquivocally the best thing that could happen to this organization. I jumped at the chance to do something for SDAI's contribution to Balboa at 100 . I will be collaborating with Charmaine Banach on a transmedia narrative project which involves locative media and olfaction.
